Free webhosting with cpanel.

Free Web Hosting
Click banner to go to site.

While looking for a webhost, I found this. I have a site hosted there but I haven't really used its full features. Having using it for some weeks now, I am happy to say though it is free, it has quite good up time. You can host up to 5 domains with it! I found another free hosting however it does not support cpanel, this one supports cpanel and you can use blogs like wordpress, b2evo, open a forum etc with just clicks away. Totally free. You have to buy your own domain though.

Auto publish your post on blogger.

Did you notice the auto publish capability of blogger ? I just saw it just now. I think it is pretty cool. Since you see, if you expect that you wouldn't be able to get to a pc at a certain date, say your friend's birthday for example. You just make a post wishing "Happy birthday" and set the date and time on his or her birthday date. No more belated birthday wishes anymore. That is if you remember to make the post and set the date and time. :D

Max web design blog

Want to learn how to boost the position of your web site in Search engines results? You can read this article, "Using link popularity to boost your position" at maxwebdesign.eu. It is another web design weblog that you may think useful and find the need to visit frequently to get information on how to build a successful blog or website.

Robert, the owner, created the blog in way to share about his web projects, talk about his websites, give tips on Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and his marketing strategies. Just like his other blog in my earlier post, the writing style is pretty straightforward and easy to understand even in this blog. Here too you may find posts regarding the ever talked about Google Page ranks and perhaps he will throw in a tip or two on how to increase it.

The blog is in a magazine format so that the featured article that many may find important to read, will be in the headlines. I think it is suitable for informative blogs like this since within one page there are many posts titles with some previews of each post. Easy to browse for the information you need. Plus you can see which one is the most commented post. Usually,when a post has many comments, logically, the post must be an interesting read and most probably worth to be read.

Anyway, no use to ramble on and on about the blog. You just got to to see it to judge for yourself on how informative it is for you.

Wordpress auction plugin.

Few days ago I got myself a wordpress.com blog. I was simply curious how other blog engine looks like from the inside. For all my 3-4 years of blogging I only used blogger. I have to admit, wordpress themes are sweet! Not to mention all those neat plugins. If you're a wordpress user, you know what I'm talking about. If not, nevermind. I haven't posted anything on my wordpress blog. I just don't know what to write there. Further I have no idea yet how to use the plugins.I will learn eventually one of these days when I get the time to.

Anyway, talking about plugins. Here is one cool plugin for wordpress. WP auctions plugin. You can actually sell stuff on your blog the ebay style. The idea sounds cool enough for me.

Some features of the plugin are, the ability to upload multiple images, the buy it now feature, rss feeds for the auctions and more. If you want to know how it looks like, check out wpauctions dot com and click on styles and you will be able to see what the auction plugin would look like.

Well they don't come free. Good things hardly comes free sometimes. Anyway, the price ranges from $1.99 to $4.99 for different colour styles. Can go for the package of 5 colours for $7.95. But if you want to customize the style yourself it will cost you $ 48.99. Or there's the cheapest version. The free version. Though most probably wouldn't be as nice as the paid ones but would be good enough for a test drive.

Gee, if only I know what to sell, maybe I would be able to utilize my wordpress blog after all.

Word counting tool

When ever I need to know how many words I've typed in my blog posts I would use the word counting tool that is available online here. I know that wordpress has a plugin for this. But blogspot.com blogs don't have this.

The tool is very easy to use. Just copy the entire text and paste it into the box and click submit and the number of words will immediately appear. It will count, Words made out of the alphabet,Words made from a combination of alphabets and numbers, and Words with an apostrophe ( ' ) and a hyphen ( -). However,it omits html codes and words that starts with an apostrophe (')or an hyphen (-)and words made solely from numbers, like 1234 but will count numbers combined with alphabets like, 1234a.

There's one 139 words in this post.

Custom domain with blogger.com

I have just moved my blog to a new domain about 2 weeks ago. It was not easy for me because I had to read about it. As many of you know, that learning new things isn't so much fun at times. Read forums and asked here and there. Eventually one of my blogger friends helped me with this by showing a screenshot of her dns control panel. (You will know what is this DNS control panel as you progress through this post.

So that's why here I'd like to share this info with my friends and readers who happen to stumble upon this post and interested to get their own domain but still would like to use blogger as their blog engine.

I prefer using blogger, because they host your blog for free even if you use your own domain. No blogspot.com.Moreover I'm already comfortable with blogger.com.So all you need is to buy a domain.

You can buy your domain through blogger.Just click settings tab on your blogger's dashboard. Click publishing tab. Then click, switch to custom domain. You will see an option to get a domain. Through blogger, I think the domain is about $10. I bought mine at Greatdomainrace.com. Many people suggest to get the domain through Godaddy.com. But I chose Greatdomainrace because it is cheaper there currently. Only $7.69 per year. While at godaddy is $ 9.90 per year. Plus, I got a private domain because I don't want people to see my address when they search my domain at whois. There are plenty of weirdos out there. For an additional proxy domain I had to pay $1.95. So all in all it was $9.64 for my domain. Still cheaper than at godaddy. If you want a private domain from godaddy, you have to pay an additional of $6.99 for a private domain. Anyway, if you can find a cheaper domain, that's better.

Anyway if you choose to get it at greatdomainrace.com. You can use this help tutorial. I found out that if you bought from godaddy, you still can use this tutorial. Don't know about other domain providers though. Whether the control panel looks the same.

Once you've bought the domain, log in to your account. Go to your manage domain. Click "yourdomainname.com" e.g mine is sultanazuleikha.com, and you will be taken to your domain details panel. Find for:

Click it. You will see your DNS control panel. DNS stands for Domain Name System. Okay that's about it I can tell you what it is all about. LOL. The control panel will look like this:

click image to see larger version.

Change the @ to ghs.google.com and click add cname or alias. Key in your domain name and points to ghs.google.com. Ready here.

Go to your blogger dashboard. Click settings. Click publish tab. Click switch custom domain. Click switch to advance settings. Key in your domain name. Click save settings. Done! Takes some minutes for the change to take place.

Hope this helps.

Block IP tool for bloggers.

I have some friends whom I know are facing some unwanted intruders to their blogs. Of course a blog is suppose to be for the public eyes but if people come to your blog to leave you mean comments which is uncalled for, now that is not a good thing.I have some people whom I don't want to come visiting my blog. I had bad experience with them and I just don't want them to be part of my life anymore.
So just like me do you have an unwanted visitor stalking your blog? Or getting nasty comments from people whom you simply can't get rid off? If you are using blogger.com as your blog engine, forget using javascript that is available to block certain IPs from entering your blog. It just doesn't work.I found a better tool for bloggers to block certain IP address from their blogs.
Click here to go to a site where you can create a free account. Get a code from that website after registering, paste it on your blog. On that website you key in the IP address you don't want to allow on your blog. Key in another website address that you want that person to be redirected to. I've tried it, it loads your blog for few seconds but then redirect to another blog.
Hope this helps.

Easy way to make a Favicon.

I just found out an easy way to make a Favicon. It's the 16x16 px picture icon that is next to the url in the address bar.

And if your browser supports tabs then it will appear on your tab as well. Like so,

All you have to do is go to Favicon from pics where you can upload an image and it will generate an .ico file for you.

Once it generated a favicon.ico and a gif file, download it to your computer and later upload the files to a host.

Copy this script:

<!-- Favicon -->
<link href="'http://domainwhereyouuploadthefiles.favicon.ico'" rel="'shortcut" type="'image/x-icon'/">
<link href="'http://domainwhereyouuploadthefiles/favicon.gif'" rel="'icon'" type="'image/gif'/">

Paste it in your blogger template between <head> and </head> tags.

Just change the Http://domainwhereyouuploadthefiles.favicon.ico to where ever you uploaded your ico file and the name of the file.

Then it's ready!

Note: preview your template first before you save it. Favicon does not work with I.E. I've checked.
