Blood Plus.

It has been quite some time since the last time I wrote a review of my favourite Anime. It is about time I write another one. One Anime series that I love watching is Blood plus. A 2006 "Production I.G" and "Aniplex" production, sequel to Blood:The last vampire movie. I saw the movie first which led me to watch the sequel. The movie has had many good reviews about it. Though the series is so much different from the original movie. One thing is how the character looks like in the movie and in the series. Totally different. Saya in the movie was quite a determined person who is out there solely to kick chiropteran butts. Most of the time cutting them into halves. Real bloody. While Saya in the series is just the ordinary girl, who just love peace and cutting chiropterans into halves is not her cup of tea.

Anyway, the series is actually, about a vampire girl by the name of Saya Otonashi who, equipped with an ancient Japanese sword, the katana, travels the world in search of chiropterans. Chiropterans are creatures that feed on the blood of humans. She being the only one who could kill them using her blood.

She was born in 1833(about) and has a twin sister named Diva. Found in the womb of a strange creature that a couple of scientists found in Iceland. They call this creature "the queen". Both Saya and Diva has to survive on blood.

Being brought up by a scientist, they were treated like a science project. Otonashi Saya being the lucky one was chosen to be raised like a daughter to the scientist. Love and freedom. However, the sister Diva, was unfortunately, locked up in a tower all her life, treated like an animal.

So the adventure began when Saya was talked into releasing Diva from her prison without realising it would cause the death of so many people from then on.

What made the series different and in my humble opinion more appealing from the movie is because of the chavaliers. Chavaliers for French, to the English, Knights. Both Saya and Diva has their own chavaliers. How chavaliers came about to exist? By giving their blood to normal human beings who are on the brink of death. These humans will then mutate into half chiropteran and thus called a 'Chevalier'.I feel something like Anne Rice's idea of how vampires are made. "Drink from me and live forever" kind of thing.I really love Hagi, Saya's chevalier. The tall, dark and handsome guy who goes around with a cello, hiding in the case, the Katana Saya used to kill the chiropterans.

Another different fact they injected into the series, which was not in the movie was that, Saya and Diva, after every few years awake, they will have to go into hibernation for about 30 years. That sucks, imagine every time you wake up, either your human friends are old or they are already dead. The cool part is, they remain as teenagers for eternity.

The anime has rather amazing soundtracks which have become favourites of mine. If you don't like the anime, you might like the music. Hagi playing Bach's baroque music on his cello, Diva with her beautiful voice singing the opera, not to mention the opening and ending songs. I usually like the ending songs.

From where these chiropterans came from? How come they can only be killed with Saya's blood? Well that you have to find out on your own. There are 50 episodes to the anime which you can watch online here.

What we're watching

In Hungarian the title is 'kukucska kalandjai' which means (a direct translation of what little hungarian I know) Little peekaboo's Adventure. An anime both my daughter and I enjoy watching. So cute opening music... Bonnie and I only sings the "kuik, kuik, kuik" and the "au,au,au" part. LOL . Kawaii... ;)

Daddy Long Legs

Do you have a book that you can read over and over
again yet you never get bored or tired reading it? For
me, I can read "Daddy long legs" by Jean Webster times
over and I won't be bored of it. Simply a classic!
It's about an orphan girl named Jerusha Abbot a.k.a
Judy, who grew up in an Orphanage. When her talent for
writing was admired by one of the trustees; who then decided to support her to continue her studies in Highschool.
Fell in love with a rich guy who was like more than a decade
her senior in age,Jervis Pendleton. From a poor girl in an
orphanage to a beautiful, successful and independant woman.
Simply inspiring.
So this story is mainly about how Judy overcame her fear
of her past. She was afraid that people would know that she
came from an orphanage. Also about her fight to gain
independence. The thing that I really admire in this character
is that, she is determined to get what she wants and persistant in
reaching her goals and dreams. Besides that, I just love
the romance in it. :)

Click Here to read online version of the novel.

I saw a japanese anime, adaptation of the book.
"Watashino Ashinaga Ojisan"1990 production.

Though I liked the anime Judy, just that her hair is just
too Pippi Longstokingish. LOL. If you don't know who is
Pippi Longstoking, this is her.

If you're interested in finding the anime, try downloading
it from Fansub group, C1 anime. Click image.

Can download using torrent or their irc channel. If you
like the anime do donate some money for them to keep their
download bot going. :D

Huh, writing about the book makes me feel like reading it again! :)
I really recommend this book for those in need of inspiration.

Death Note

I started watching this anime some months back and got myself hooked on it. An anime which was originally a manga, brain child of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. About a very bright highschool student, Light Yagami, who by chance found a Notebook. Well, nothing so extraordinary when you look at the note book. Even Light was a bit sceptical of this the first time when he read the instructions on how to use the book, thinking that it is some kind of prank. He tried it anyway and realized that the book was authentic. His belief became stronger when he met the real owner of the book, "Shinigami (Death God) Ryuk". You see, this mysterious notebook is no ordinary notebook, for when the person who owns the book writes down a name of a person, that person will die of a heart attack, unless if the reason of death is stated as well. Futher, who ever touches the book, he is able to see a Shinigami.

So Light, being an idealist perfectionist, he hates corruption and crime which is happening in the world. Thus, he felt that it is his duty as a human being to rid the world of such people. Claiming himself to be "God" of an ideal world that he will create. With the number of criminals dropping dead like flies, soon the bizarre coincidences caught the attention of the International Police Force and a mysterious detective only known as "L". Not only did Light catches the attention of the Police, but also the public, who, likes the idea of retribution against the criminals. They call him "Kira"from the japanese pronunciation of the word "Killer".

It didn't take Light long to realize that "L" is his greatest rival. With Light, being a top student with very high IQ, it takes more that a police force to find out his true identity and his whereabouts. "L" is the only one who can stop him. It's a battle of Genius against Genius. Either "L" finds "Kira" first or "Kira" finds "L" first is the determinator of who will win.

Frankly I like "Kira" better. Somehow he does make the world a lot better if people are scared to commit crime. However, the power he possess is dangerous even for himself I suppose. As the saying goes, " Power is like wine, too much of it, intoxicates".

Victorian Romance Emma

Another Anime review! I'm not really good at giving reviews but bear with me. :) I'm learning, so be kind. :D

A romance anime based on 19th Century England. A beautiful love story between William Jones, a member of the high class gentry, and Emma, a simple, hard working, modest maid. Basicly, its about their struggle to cling on to their love for each other and overcome the barrier of social rules and tradition of that time.

Story began when Mr. William Jones made a social call to his ex-governess ( after so many years) and saw Emma for the first time and had an immediate special interest for her. Something that is taboo due to their social status in the society. However being somewhat of a revolt, William just pursued on getting Emma's attention, in which he succeeded.

Official website. (Japanese)

Another aspect I really like about "Emma" is the historical part. The way the anime was presented and the drawings of the surroundings and architecture in the anime you can even get the feeling of how people in 19th century England had lived.

The anime 1st season consists of 12 episodes, can be downloaded using torrent HERE by Iichan fansub group. They even took the trouble to do some historical review at every end of an episode. Brilliant job. And if after watching the whole season of the anime and you feel itch to know whats the ending you can read the full Manga HERE. 2nd season is due to come out this year. Not sure of the exact date. But I can't wait to watch the sequel. :)

P/s: can watch it online at youtube here!!
