Now that Euro 2008 is on, it reminds me of the time I was in my University days. That time I lived in a place called Shah Alam. A city of one of the states in Malaysia. Whenever there's a football season, either locally or internationally, I could hear, "Goooaaaallll!" coming from the nearby flats. Malaysians do love football. Just unfortunate that our Football team sucks big time. LOL
In Hungary, I can not hear any shoutings of "Gooooalll!" or cheering from the neighbours. Most probably out of respect for the other neighbours, or they go to pubs to watch, I have no idea. Malaysians, besides watching from home, they go to "mamak" or Indian Muslims restaurants. This is when the restaurant owners would take out their big screen televisions for the customers to watch football. More and more Malaysians prefer to watch from the restaurants than at home I believe. The more people cheer along the more exciting it is. Even if you are not the type who watch football, but when you are among those who cheered, laughed, excited, the excitement does creep on you.
Anyway the last Euro I've watched or cared to follow up was Euro 1996. :P That's it. I will watch football again if either the Hungarian team or Malaysian team qualify for one of the Big Games. World cup, Euro etc. Currently both are hopeless. Ha ha.
